Hi folks,
I just returned from the CNN Land Use and Transportation Meeting and
wanted to give you a short update on some of the items that were
discussed.
* Boeing Aircraft has applied to the Oregon DEQ for a permit to
increase emission of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) from 39 to 99
tons per year at their airplane painting operation located at the
intersection of NE 47th and Cornfoot Road. When Boeing’s emissions are
combined with other existing pollutants from or around the Portland
Airport, they amplify the negative health and environmental impact. A
coalition of neighborhoods in our area is requesting that DEQ require
Boeing to use the Best Achievable Control Technology (BACT) for their
equipment. If you would like to get involved to keep Boeing from
emitting more pollutants into our neighborhood let me know and I will
get you in touch with the neighborhood group that is monitoring this
process.
* Value Village in the Hollywood neighborhood has been sold to a
national grocery chain called “Grocery Outlet”. It is unknown what the
fate of the Hollywood Farmers market will be since they set up in the
Value Village parking lot. We need to help the farmers market find a
more permanent home. If you would like to get involved in this process
just let me know and I will put you in touch with the folks from the
Hollywood neighborhood.
* Metro is accepting public testimony on the regional
transportation plan on November 15th at 2 pm. There aren’t nearly as
many projects planned for the NE area as there are for other areas of
the City that are planned for funding in the next 10 years. Here is a
list of projects that are in the pool of projects that could be funded
prior to 2035. Please attend the meeting and testify if you would like
to see any of them funded sooner, like within the next 10 years:
* 10180 Sandy Blvd multimodal improvements; (NE 47th to NE 101st)
$4.6 million
* 10200 Killingsworth pedestrian district; $1.0 million
* 10268 Hollywood pedestrian district; $7.7 million
* 10293 Fremont pedestrian and safety improvements; (42nd to 52nd)
$290,000 (these are additional improvements along Fremont – but am not
sure of the details)
* 10304 Klickitat/Siskiyou bikeway; (7th to Rocky Butte Rd)
$75,000
* 10310 Prescott pedestrian and bike improvements; (47th to I-205)
$1.0 million
* 10311 Skidmore bikeway; (Interstate to Cully) $75,000
* 10352 Sullivans Gulch Trail; (East Bank Esplanade to NE 122nd)
$13.7 million
