[BWNA] City Repair

Ankist -- sounds great!

I was thinking about the picnic shelter at Wilshire Park and one idea that came
to mind was some kind of community chess and/or checkers game area. I envision
a large chess board painted on the pavement under the covered section of the
shelter with people playing chess with large, statuesque chess pieces. The one
obvious problem with this is how to store and secure the chess pieces when
they're not in use. Alternately, instead of a large chess board, there could
be several tables with chess boards imprinted on to the top surface of the
tables. People could then bring their own chess pieces to play with. It would
be great if the tables were constructed of stone or some other very sturdy,
permanent material.

One suggestion in going forward with any changes to the picnic shelter -- and
perhaps you've done this already. It would probably be a good idea to contact
Peggy Glasscock at the City Parks Bureau -- apparently, she is the community
contact person for Wilshire Park. It might be a good idea to bounce ideas off
her and/or get her buy-in. Her phone number is 503-823-3642. Also, since we're now co-chairing the BWNA Wilshire Park subcommittee, maybe it would be a good idea for the two of us to arrange a time to meet with her to tell her about some of our ideas and learn more from her about Wilshire Park's operations, budget, and future plans the City has for the park.

Okay, back to work here. Talk to you later...
